I believe in the death penalty, but in this case keeping him alive in supermax would be a much more fitting punishment.
Even the family of the child killed don't want him executed, simply because they now face having to see years or even decades of appeals which will be very distressing for them.

The family don't want the drawn out process that is associated with the death sentence. That is very different from being against a death sentence carried out in short order.

I have never really understood why it takes "Decades of appeals".

Surely the only appeal that really matters is "I wasn't there, I didn't do it"

Whilst I think it is not unreasonable to have a review process before executing somebody even after a trial and guilty verdict. I don't really see why it should take decades,

(Especially in this case)
