Diggers 'killed 150 in Afghanistan'

AUSTRALIAN special forces troops have wiped out more than 150 Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters during nine days of fierce fighting in southern Afghanistan.

The Australians from the Special Forces Task Group, with just six men injured in the battle, used superior weapons and overwhelming airborne fire support to overcome the enemy, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Codenamed Operation Perth, the hardest fighting took place in July during the search and destroy missions in the Chora district, about 40km north-east of the Australian base in southern Afghanistan.

During its 12 month deployment, the group has sustained 11 casualties, including several men seriously wounded.

One commando had part of his jaw blown off, another was shot in the buttocks and a SAS specialist was hit in the abdomen.

Several men will be awarded gallantry medals for their actions.

The commandos and SAS troopers are angry that the task group will not be replaced when it leaves later this month.

"It's not right to pull out. We shouldn't just go there for a shoot 'em up and then come home," one soldier told the newspaper.

The Daily Telegraph said it had learned details of the operation by accessing previously classified material about the campaign.

I know but our Forces are always pushed aside, If you see my complaints in other threads you will see why i stated that. Its Always the UK and the USA Forces, We hardly ever get a mention and Considering we didnt get one fatality i thought it shows how good we even if we dont get the Recognition the Australian Army Deserves

Too many puppies are being shot in the dark.
Too many puppies are trained not to bark.
At the sight of blood that must be spilled
So that we may maintain our oil fields.

Too many puppies
Too many puppies are taught to heel.
Too many puppies are trained to kill.

On the command of men wearing money belts that buy
Mistresses sleek animal pelts.
Too many puppies.

Too many puppies with guns in their hands.
Too many puppies in foreign lands.
Are dressed up sharp in suits of green and
Placed upon the war machine.

Too many puppies are just like me.
Too many puppies are afraid to see.
The visions of the past brought to life again,
Too many puppies, too many dead men.

Last time I saw the Australian army mentioned it was when one of their tanks reversed into their own troops live on TV, it was like watching n00bs on bf2.

I can't remember the exact battle it wasn't Afghan or Iraq or anything like that. I think it was when there was some civil unrest someplace and australian troops were sent in...memory is fragmented at the moment.

Well in the past 10 years the places we went have been Fiji, The Solomon Islands, East Timor, East Timor again, Afghanistan and Iraq IIRC.

And we have only had 2 or 3 fatalities

A lot of foreign special forces train and operate with each other sometimes.

Saying that I remember watching a program where some members of current "Special Forces" didn't even make it through the SAS selection process.

The SBS also operate a lot more than people think, a lot of people assume that British special forces are SAS.

There may have been more fatalities. Im not sure how deaths of special forces member are reported in other countries but in the UK it is never published that an actual member of the SAS/SBS etc were injured. They always quote the unit he joined from, Para's and Marines etc.
