Man am I angry!

So, I go to the gym five times a week. Four times a week I do 45 minutes CV then weights. Once a week I do 25 mins x-trainer, then 35 minutes bike then a 10k run.

Today, I was doing the CV day. I'm on the bike and this woman sits down on the bike next to me. I've got my earphones in as per normal.

Now, before I go any further, I train at about 80%, high intensity. Which is my way of training (we all do different stuff) and that's just me.
Also, I get mild asthma and train to increase lung efficiency so that basically, I don't get asthma. Maybe my lungs aren't so great though.

Anyway, she doesn't train really. She's one of these stupid bints who has a magazine on the machine to read as she "trains".

So, she looks at me and motions that she wants to speak to me.
She say's;
"excuse me but can I say something in the nicest possible way. Are you aware of how heavy you breath when you're working? I can hear you from over there"
(at this stage I think she's just making conversation). I reply;
"Well, I try to train at about 80% so I work quite hard...."
(she say's)
"hmmm well I find it off putting to be honest"
(I say)
"yeah well tough if you don't like it move"
Then I put my earphones back in.

I then started the bike cool down but, well, I ain't great in situations like that and my blood started to boil over the next few minutes.
I mean, it's a GYM not a LIBRARY. Who is she to try and make me feel uncomfortable when training?

So, I unplugged my phones again and told her that she had a fat **** but I didn't let that put me off. I told her to keep it covered from now on because I would be keeping my eye on it.

Anyway, I hope she went home and had a good boo after that.

Cheeky so & so or what??

Rude woman but I would have left it after you put your phones back in the first time. I'm always conscious of how heavy I'm breathing when on the bike which is why I only put one earphone in, so I can still enjoy my music but also so that I don't put anybody off.

Although it's a gym, what exactly does she expect? And I know exactly the type of woman you mean. She was probably a bit older, maybe in her late thirties or fourties, takes a copy of 'Hello' to stick on the front of the bike while she cycles at about 2 mph. Almost makes me laugh as much as those women who sit on the weight trainers and they put the weight on about 0.5 Kilos, or none at all, and they do about ten reps and leave. Do they actually think that is doing anything at all? They may as well just wave their arms round because with zero weights on the machine that's essentially what they're doing!!

It's a gym not a library like you say. I regulary have to put up with people screaming, panting and sometimes a waft of B.O. but it doesn't really bother me. If people want to breathe deeply, pant, scream, groan, drip with sweat and reak of B.O. they have every right to do so. Basic levels of hygene apply, if you walk into the gym and stink already it's not really acceptable.

I know I probaly stink come the end of a heavy resistance session and regulary beads of sweat drop from my face onto the gound. If somebody came and complained about it I'd tell them to go **** themselves.

Should have just hit her round the head with her magazine and told her to do one.

Seems a bit unnecessary but I definitely would have told her where to go if shes complaining about loud breathing in a gym =/, does she complain about the loudness of someone running on a treadmill too =:confused:. She needs a slap.

Didn't really need to go further than to tell her where to shove it the first time, but I can see why you did it. I take my CV fairly seriously, and tend to end up breathing heavily and sweating over everything in a 5 metre radius, so I'm pretty sure she wouldn't get on with me!!!

Your initial reply would have been dignified, the second just means you're basically a bad-tempered ****. :p

I think it's hilarious. "You've got a fat arse but I don't let that put me off. You'd better keep it covered from now on because I'll be keeping an eye on it."

I just figured she was trying to give me a complex and bully me into toning down my training, so I'd fight fire with fire.:cool:

No, she was just a pleb who wasn't there to train, probably doesn't even know what real training is. I can't understand why you'd even give it a second thought, never mind get so heated up over it.

Although it was probably over the top on the second wave, I did laugh a lot, and if I was there with you would be absolutely ****ing myself.

I litterally LOL'd :D

and reak of B.O..............

There is a difference between fresh sweat and stale BO though, if somebody is obviously reeking of BO in my gym they would get told, it upsets our other members and lowers the reputation of the place.

I think it was deserved! Despite being a large portion of our memberships being taken up by this demographic, I prefer people who take training seriously.

I get exactly them at the gym, all these woman do like 1/2 sets on the weight machines at about 5KG and I get dirty looks as I spend like upto 5 mins on one machine as I'm having rests between like my 4/5 sets...

How very dare I, get people coming over and like... are you finished... I'm not sat here for somewhere to sit down you daft bint.

im surprised she came over to you in the first place, your heavy breathing would be an incentive to make others work just as hard i thought:)
