A friend of mine from school decided to take his own life a couple of years ago by stabbing himself through the heart with a pair of scissors. :(

He was apparently still struggling with his sexuality. Talented musician as well, much like the guy in the story. Would have been 32 at the time. He was just struggling inside, let alone having a video put live on the internet for the world to see.

So my answer is, I do not believe it is overdramatic at all. People can be very cruel, whether intentional or not.

Is the 5 years doing something that causes his death, or a sentence for illegal filming and broadcast? Was it all live, or recorded and rebroadcast later?
They couldn't have known that he was going to kill himself afterwards, but modern technology seems to have no limits and no bounds, people do things without thinking.
Wonder how many under18s have made sextext pictures of themselves and never given thought that they are distributing child porn, same with anyone who looks at it.
The world has changed so much in past 10 years with mobiles and internet, that laws and peoples knowledge of laws is so far behind.

Gah, the gays do have strange mentalities sometimes. Not all of course, my uncle is gay and he's fine, but a boy at school came out in a school assembley, like an announcement on his own. Very credible, but then he assumed everyone hated him after that, so he was a complete ass hat to everyone, so eventually, everyone did hate him, in a self-fulfilling prophetic manner :D

Still, this is way OTT, I mean, who hasn't been caught with their pants down online. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :p

They'd probably have filmed him if he was hoffing the fittest bird on campus, too. It was his own reaction to his public outing, and perhaps the pressures of the expected reaction of society at large to his homosexuality, that pushed him over the edge. Poor bloke. RIP.

Not sure the roomies, as foolish and wrong as they were, deserve all those years in prison though. It was a bad call, and morally wrong, but for a college prank that caused 'mere' embarrassment even if it spiralled to suicide? Harsh.

My thoughts on this. I'd be inclined to believe that he had his own issues coming to terms with him self. From the article, I'd say that rather than bullying, it was simply a prank that went wrong. They can't realistically claim his death was their fault (manslaughter or something) and had he not took his life, would they be facing any sort of punishment?

I think it's the not being able to come to terms with it, feeling like they're "not normal" in a sense, with regards to the whole "getting married and having kids" thing.
 
Might sound stupid but you would think that the Police have some kind of Mini Harpoon type Gun for instances like this.

Just fire it into the potential suicides Calf muscle or somewhere where theres no Artery and Bingo youve gone and prevented a potential suicide.

Well thats what I'm guessing Batman would do.
