Brilliant film to recommend, and I shed a tear!

Miracle Mile, 1988. I've watched it twice, once a couple of years ago and again tonight. Each time, the last couple of minutes made me shed a tear. I couldn't remember what happened at the end, despite it being such a fantastic and contra-obvious ending, which is why I went through it all again and then remembered how it hit me the first time.

I think this must have been the (personally) hitherto unheard of director's effort to assist in ending the cold war. If such was the case, whether or not it had any effect at all is beyond me, but if I'd been one of the people involved and saw it I think it might have moved me a bit.

It combines excellent use of light & colour, especially 80's neon but in a tasteful way, with haunting music from Tangerine Dream. More importantly, the plot is believable and builds up what seems to be a realistic portrayal of accelerating panic in such a scenario, albeit an improbable one.

Yet this film is a great romance as much as a disaster, and it was more this aspect in view of the disaster that produced a drop of water in my left eye. :)
