British Airways edits Casino Royale

Theres always to some extent subconsciously an impact on the watcher.

Havent seen this James Bond movie but seeing as its action-packed etc, weeding Virgin advertising through this way is worthwhile to Virgin, then its worthwhile for BA to remove it.

Pathetic yes, but why show anything related to a competitor on-board?

Seen as the customers would already be on-board a BA aircraft I don't see how it matters :p

Absolutely pathetic!

How the hell is it pathetic? It would be a pretty damn stupid businessman who promotes one of his biggest competitors.

Any publicity is good publicity. I'm sure it was a decision that wasn't taken lightly.

What about repeat flights?
Its the same with the cinema piracy warnings. You have already paid to go see the film legit why tell you pirate copies are crap? Because they believe you might one day decide to go buy a pirate copy.

Now I don't agree with this at all, but this is *their logic for doing such things.

Its abit daft, I didnt even know he was in it until Iv read this report, so I just put my DVD of it in, and no wonder I missed it, its like a 2 second glimpse of him ! and then you dont even clock it well, watched it 4 times previously and missed it,haha, and only now do I know its him.

Yes, and this is very good publicity for Virgin.

Its a bad businessman who feels too paranoid to acknowledge the existance of his rivals, more so to proactively remove reference to them. :)

Took the words right out of my mouth.

This move tells me that BA feel Virgin are threat to them, therefore attempting to disguise that threat.

If buisness is strong enough, then they should have nothing to worry about.

Has to make you wonder what companies are afraid of, when they pretend competitors don't exist.

I highly doubt anyone will decide to fly Virgin based on a 2 second shot of Branson

roffles :D

I disagree. I don't think 'paranoia' was the reason for removing it.

Of course Virgin are a threat to BA, they're a direct competitor on many of their routes. I'm sure BA and the rest of the world know this. You have just stated the most glaringly obvious fact in existence there :p

Right, so if you saw Branson on a film on one of their flights would you immediately sit up and go 'I MUST TAKE MY NEXT FLIGHT ON VIRGIN!!"?

Or would you select the flight that had the best times, features and cost for your needs?

Really it is quite simple... it won't make Virgin go away and they're idiots for doing this. Paranoia.

It's a bit like OcUK denying people saying people in purple and blue shirts don't exist, when in fact we all know who they are - first person to name the aforementioned companies, gets a suspension/ban from Scuzi. :p

When I see Richard Branson I think of Virgin. If BA can do anything to reduce the amount of times their customers see the face of Virgin or think about Virgin then why not?
Of course Virgin won't go away, that's a completely irrational argument. It's just plain common sense to do all you can to avoid any sort of publicity of your competitors, however little it may be. It's not exactly a 'BA Director's Cut", they've removed a few seconds of the film to suit themselves.

Of course, the media will sensationalise this non-issue beyond all proportion and the tabloid reading public will be led blindly like lemmings off a cliff into a valley of irrational sensationalism.

Fair play to BA. This is a complete non-issue. It must be a slow news day.

Causing discussions like this one and lots of publicity for Virgin you mean?

Went a bit **** ups for BA, as now virgin get more media publicity than what the 2 sec clip would have origanally created.
Its nothing new in business, remeber microsoft puts more money into denying the threat from open source than they give to charity.

It does make good business sense, it just went a bit wrong :p

Exactly. Publicity for both BA and Virgin. - "Any publicity is good publicity"

BA probably didn't anticipate some sad git would make a national news story out of it.
