British Grand Prix 2014, Silverstone - Race 9/19

i dont agree with that. i agree with eddie. you have to repair the barrier

Indeed he was wrong, the probability is definitively not zero! zero point something yes and extremely un-probable but NOT impossible.
Safety is paramount and it's why we thankfully haven't had a fatality in f1 for ages, and long may it continue :-)

The barriers should be more bolt in/out 5 minute changes. An hour to repair such a small piece is too long.

It would be if something didnt hit it, Things don't tend to come apart very well after being bent to silly angles.

Think it through, they even had to put new struts into the ground to bolt the new parts to as they were damaged as well.

Regards the delay in repairing the barrier, they should simply have some spare Techpro stuff on the back of a trailer they can put in front of the damage and be done with it tbh.

While those parts should be easy to replace, once smashed and shape changed things often become very difficult to remove, I don't know but it looked like it took them quite a while to get them off in the first place. They should maybe have trucks loaded with stacks of tires or whatever they need to use, effectively some kind of clip on replaceable section so they could effectively just strap on a 5 metre patch in front of it with suitably strong connections to keep it in place during an impact.

Would they do this at any other track?

Of course, delays for Armco/tyre wall repair are pretty common in club level racing. The biggest delays are usually when one of the posts has been damaged and needs to be replaced as they need to be set into the ground firmly. It's less prevalent in stuff like F1 because it's less common for the barriers to get damaged, plus there is always commercial pressure to get the show on the road.

Kudos to whoever has made the decision to deal with this in the right way and put safety ahead of TV schedules.

It was slightly dented, and if it absolutley has to be replaced, it should have been in less than an hour.

The problem was the middle one was pushed upwards, the gap between them is important as it spreads the load. The next car could have hit the lower part, missed the upper part and gone underneath which could kill a driver pretty easily and be incredibly dangerous for those behind it. The dent wasn't a huge problem itself it was that the gap between them opened up significantly.

That fact is they made a 15 minute job last 60 minutes. Right tools and right people would have nailed that in 15 minutes. It is so typically British to watch so many people just watching and lots of people flapping.

If they're going to do that though, they need to install faster repair barrier, or get designing one. Probably does need doing, but surly fast change barriers exist, or can exist.
