British TV viewers to be shown shocking moment terminally ill man ends his life at su

I'll all for euthanasia, but I can't see a single reason why I'd want to watch this?

I mean the man dying, not the program itself, seems completely unnesseccary.

It's like snuff only less erotic...

Can;t see the point in watching an ill man die tbh.

Although euthanasia like it is in Switzerland should be embraced here, as now all we do is let them starve to death under guise it's more civilized.

Not something I'd want to watch particularly but I respect his right to choose to die, I think it should be introduced in this country with appropriate safeguards (whatever they may be) as it doesn't seem fair to have to travel to another country to gain a death of your choosing - as if the choice wasn't difficult enough without having to consider travel plans too.

If it does indeed spark further debate about the legalisation of assisted suicide in this country then broadcasting the programme can only be a good thing.

Looking at it from that perspective its a shame its only being broadcast on a niche Sky channel, and not the BBC.

I've got to echo the thoughts already given: I'd never be comfortable with watching someone die purely out of morbid curiosity. However, I don't think the public should be sheltered from death -- it's a part of life afterall. In the context of the documentary, then it's a good thing it is being shown but I do wonder about the knee-jerk reaction this may bring. I would like to mention though, that television is slowly becoming more risqué and this certainly isn't the most graphic, nor harrowing footage to be broadcast. Just from an initial recall, we've had live abattoirs and that creepy German fella who sliced up brains.

As for euthanasia; I have been, and for the foreseable future will remain in support of the practice.

I support the wife who also has to arrive back in Britain to be possibly arrested for assisting in the death of her husband. Not sure if she will considering the media coverage on this. It should be reviewed and lifted for cases like this.

I don't aim to watch people falling asleep either.

It isn't that the thought of him dying bothers me especially, I'm not very squeamish and have doubtless seen much more visceral deaths (both real and fictional) but I can't really say I want to watch someone dying.

If people are curious enough then they'll watch it. It'll probably make some sort of impact on them, for better or for worse, and it will have served it's purpose.

It's like the Nick Berg execution video, I watched, it was disturbing, not something I'd make a habit of, it made me think my opinions and that was that.

In short, if you don't like it then don't watch it. Same as any other programme on TV.
