Could you pick 4 more different cars? That is a bit of a selection with a wide price brand, what is he spending and what is he budgeting to run it? does he need 2 seats or 4/5.

Not owned any of the above but from reports ive read on the net and from friends who own golfs and an mr2 they seem reliable enough.

All have their associated reputation but if it was me id go with the mr2. Mid engined, rear wheel drive... Not too many of them on the roads - unlike the golf.

I see FAR more MR2's on the road than Golf VR6's.

Personally I'd pick the FTO - nice cars, handling is excellent (Although perhaps not MR2 like, you can push harder without dire consequences), plenty of power, and unlike the rest they have not dated quite as badly as popup headlight MR2's and just frankly bland Golfs.

Oi oi, the reason I chose the MR2 over any other choices were the pop-ups :p Naturally my suggestion would be an MR2, but ideally he needs around £3.5k - £4k to get a good condition / low mileage tubby.

are FTO's only 3k now

Looking through the ad-trader, and some FTOs on 60k miles are only £3k  Too bad I don't like the styling of the front end and the wheels are just too damn small for the arches...

well the wheels are not a prob just get bigger ones or lower... i dont mind them but bro likes them. sooo i think he is going to get an fto. :p

A golf, a GTO, a FTO and a MR2. The lad above is right, they don't get much more different

Of that list I'd take the GTO everytime, but not a £3k one!!
