ok so will be moving away up to scotland soon and want to get the broadband sorted. just wondering if you guys have any good recommendations as to who to go with. looking to pay £35-40 month, want unlimited usage and good dl speeds and decent ul speeds. not bothered if adsl or cable. dont really want to use virgin as they seem to cap torrents

any recommendation's you guys can give would be much appreciated. cheers

Virgin don't cap torrents as far as I know... I know they cap downloading during peak hours if you rinse the connection, but that is about it...

In our student house last year we had their 10mbit connection, which was upgraded to 20mbit. It was great, and we will be having it again this year :)

well ive been with ntl before and they were great, then it changed to virgin and my torrents went rubbish. any other suggestions? cheers

i'd recommend virgin too as i've never had problems with their bb.. :)

edit: torrents, etc always work fine for me

So no throttling at virgin? I'm with pipex and they limit torrents to 25kps.

I've had torrents reach over 2 megabytes/second on Virgin :D

Obviously if you download lots during peak hours, they limit your downloads during peak hours, but during the night, its VERY fast!

Why use torrents? with bt and (virgin partial giganews a lot of servers arent carried) you get free full service giganews
difference is virgin only has the files for 3 days then they are deleted bt is 200
days retention although its capped at 1.4 mbps virgin also cap between about 3pm and 2 am when i had them so for £24-99 month you'll get
upto 8mb adsl but the kicker is the giganews service people pay £10
a month for this service on full speed granted but £10 is £10
and there really isn't any time i wish i had faster than 1.4 mbps for a download
off the news servers unless i were into HD content but then i would pay for giganews.
