My friends purchased a jacket on Boxing Day from GAP. He paid £55 for this jacket, then two days later he is in there and the jacket is then further reduced and being sold for £20, he’s a little upset,,,,

I told his he’s a fool for shopping in GAP, and it’s a punishment,

Anyway does anyone know if you can return ‘sale ‘ good? I seem to remember something about sale items being not refundable?

Whoever told you that was talking carp. Just tell him he's a Crazy Fool for buying things so soon before the sales kick in.

He has no legal right to return it unless there's a fault with it. He paid his money at the price advertised at the end of the day.

He could try and return it and the store may do it, but they are under no obligation to do so.

First check that items can be returned, then what i would do is go and buy the exact same jacket, size etc for £20. Remove all mention of it being £20 from the label (stickers or tear off the price)if they question you say it was a gift and the price was removed. Take it back with the receipt for £55 and ask for a refund. Therefore paying £20 for the jacket. Got to be the exact same size, colour though.

Surely he would be better off just trying to return the original jacket. If he takes it back, then if they refund him he goes and buys the same jacket again at the cheaper price. Otherwise he could end up with 2 jackets and having spent £75.

iirc with gap if you take back something and its currently less than what you pay for it, you just get its current sale price :( so if your mate takes it back he will only get £20.

I'm pretty sure if he has the reciept they can't do that.

[edit] I think it comes under 'Impose unfair finacial penalties'.
