Hi Folks..

My mum's 05 Mini Coopers coolant has turned a browny colour for the third time now...

Now the Thermostat housing is common to actually crack iirc.. but considering this is the third time now.. and has been replaced twice is there anything that could seriously be wrong?

I've heard of this happening on the Mini before - I cannot remember what it was but it wasn't normal and it wasn't right. Is the car still under warranty?

Edit: ISTR it was 'diagnosed' as head gasket failiure but I think the chap in question traded the car in before it was ever resolved as there was a dispute between him and BMW over the warranty.

If the car is under warranty get it in ASAP especially as its probably due to expire soon being an 05 plate car.

I think hers is a May Build so I think she may still have some warrenty left..

Also last time i checked the Oil cap/Dip-Stick.. I think it may be worth checking it again when she comes home.. because this problem first arised a few months ago..

I did say to her that theres a chance it being HG related but on a car that's only just creeping round to 3 years old.. plus the fact she hasn't even put 25k on it..

The one I was reading about was the same age and similar mileage. I can't remember where it was now but IIRC he took it in, BMW changed the thermostat housing, problem happened again, took it in, BMW found nothing, warranty expired a week later, HGF failed, BMW refused the repair.

Get it in ASAP.
