In my opinion he should be charged as a criminal. Expects us to pay more for our fuel while America prance around in their 7.0L cars paying half what we do. Does he actually think that a 1.25p rise in duty will keep us off the road. Answer is no. He announces the rise in Fuel and Air Duty then in the same budget commit's £600m for further operations in Iraq. Where are our taxes being spent? Hopsitals are posting record debt levels and shutting wards and services but yet he commit's that kind of cash to go off our shores. Thats will be well over £2bn spent on the war in Iraq. Something wrong with the mathematics here I think.

As usual the hardest hit will be the poorest families who rely on their cars for work, and when they finally can afford to go away on a holiday they'll have to pay more for that privelage.

Public transport is in no way a viable option for a large percentage of workers in this country, myself included. So what the hell are we supposed to do when public transport is taken out of the equation.

I work in Logistics and understand what kind of an impact this will have on our business let alone the countless others it will affect. This country will soon come to a halt either through a total lack of real policy to deal with congestion or by the fact that no-one will be able to afford to go anywhere in their cars.

Politicians wonder what they can do about the record debt levels in the country currently. The answer is simple to me, stop charging us so ******* much just to live here....

I agree with everything apart from Iraq, we can't just pull out, so we have to spend money, there's no option.

Pull out and leave bush to deal with the fallout, i couldnt give a toss to be honest and it would vastly reduce the likelihood of terrorist attacks on the UK.

War is a total waste of money, nothing comes of it, except hostility and pain.

BS to the rise, it isn't going to stop anyone.
Do these people not realise that many of us live far away from work/school/uni etc. and that charging us more is not going to stop us from going there, rather, **** us off and make for less £ in our pocket.

Exactly why our fuel prices should stay so high.

Agree with air duty increasing too.

Personally i think that the large percentage of workers in this country could infact use public transport if they really wanted too. I understand not everyone can but in the cities where there is a large percentage of jobs there is also a fairly decent transport system.

let me guess you live in London, Manchester or Liverpool?

Everywhere else is crap for public transport. Even Bristol the largest south west city has next to no public transport.

I know what crap public transport is! i grew up in cornwall....

I currently live in reading and find it quite adequate.

suppose you work in the centre and at normal times?

most people certainly can't use public transport, the minority can however.

exactly
public transport HA, I'm in cornwall, we have three busses a day. I can't run my business or do any job that doesn't start after 10:30 (when the bus get to truro) or finishes after 4:30 (when the bus leaves truro) if I don't use my own car.

Considering the amount of people I see driving around in BMW X5's I wouldn't consider Great Britian much more responsible. Many owners, like company directors get their fuel paid through the company anyway. Whatever we tax these fat cats it will not effect their car selection. People should be taxed on comapny paid fuel IMO.

Please dont come out with this crap, their petrol price may same cheap to us, but to them its not and it hit A LOT of people hard when it went into the $2 and $3 range.

couldnt agree more.

really think the whole politics in this country are wrong. its about time governments did things for OUR country.

I think its the fact that we cant afford to prat about in dodge chargers all day long as fuel costs much more over here than it does in the USA.

By that logic though Americans have much longer drives in most cases and have to put more fuel in the car to keep it rolling. So sure fuel is cheaper over there but you have to buy lots more of it :D

hardly much longer drives
they can drive for further between city's/states etc, but the average commute isn't that different from the UK
