Im moving to a new house in the next week, and have only just discovered that there is only a main line in the living room, and no telephone point in the computer room.

I will be getting broadband setup in the new house, but before I do, is there a way to get some sort of extension line put into the computer room upstairs? BT quoted me £140 to put one in, surely there is a cheaper way?

I only have one phone socket also, my way round it was get a set of 4 wireless phones where only 1 plugs into the phone socket the rest being stand alone satellites and then run a normal shop bought extention upto the computer room. Works a treat for me and i am on 1Mb (fastest i can get due to distance from the exchange) without an problems.

it's always best to keep the router as close to the master socket anyway to insure the best line quality. EIther use wireless or have a network cable coming from the router downstairs to the comptuer
