Bt Fibre to Cabinet

Yea, I suppose its something to do with the electricity supply as its so well protected. I won't be checking BTs wholesale checker very often, this place is regarded as a village as far as infastructure goes. It is the only place on the A49 that does'nt have a bypass.

This is a speed/distance graph for FTTC (VDSL).

Interestingly the BT engineer that visited me said that whilst the service was capped at 40/10 my distance could probably do 75 Mbps. I'm 470m which is pretty much an exact match for the graph...

Is it me or have BT put everyone back a few months, July now for me (instead of march). i have two cabinets on my road, the closest is about 150m, the other about 200m, according to that graph above ill be hitting over 90mb!

i guess we can dream for when that will happen!

i recently contacted Virgin who told me they dont have plans for my area...dont see why not considering im next to the national football stadium. oh well, will have to make do with my 15meg for now :p

I would like to know if they have plans to upgrade my exchange where can i check?

i believe i've seen one of the new exchanges less than a mile from my house but this is not the one that serves me, so im hoping this will change but i really want to know as i'll leave bt if they are'nt going to upgrade to ftc anytime soon.

btw im from the west midlands area - which means nothing :D

This list was updated on the 4th august: http://www.openreach-communications.co.uk/superfast/where-and-when/

If your on an enabled exchange you can put your phone number in here for a speed estimate: http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome

The broadband checker says I can have Infinity (have to use the postcode bit cos I don't have a BT line) but when I go to the Infinity site it says I can't! Who do I believe? Will have to give them a ring again and see what the score is. My exchange was enable last year and there is a cabinet less than 500m from my house but I'm not sure if it covers us.

Do you know the cabinet number? it should be printed on the front of the old pcp, not the new fiber cab. You can lookup your postcode in this document and cross reference the cab number: Email me for link

It's a bit out of date so all is not lost if it doesn't list your postcode or says you cab isn't live.

Try and get a neighbours phone number and see what the checker says.

Thanks for the link. I've found my cabinet but the column is blank which means it's not part of the upgrade. The FTC cabinet is on it's own about 500m from where I live. Very annoyed cos most of Chippenham seems to be covered by FTTC.

I'm going to meet the people at Bt tower who run the fibre project and if you have any questions I am happy to put it to the guys running the project.

Ask them how long until they have gigabit interernet access to you door, admittedly it will probably be sometime after South Korea but even so it would be interesting to see what they have to say...

Like I said that doc is out of date, by 4 months. Things may of changed and BT might be planning to enable it on a later infill drive as they have done is some areas.

The adsl24 rep on thinkbroadband.com might be able to tell you if it's planned, could be worth posting over there.
