BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

At the moment I’m thinking of trying to source a filtered faceplate for the NTE5A (which are probably few and far between these days) or getting it all swapped out for a NTE5C
Details on all the faceplate revisions here https://uktechhub.com/forums/topic/bt-master-sockets-and-face-plates-wiki/

Basicly just need this https://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/adsl-vdsl-faceplates/mk4btopenreachvdslsocket/ which can also be had much cheaper on ebay.

These newer filtered faceplates apparently also have a REIN filter which the ADSL filter dongle things probably don't have. The filtered faceplates are cheap so I'd be inclined to use one instead of a dongle but it would work well enough.

It's the whole thing, so replaces whatever is there now. Your right your not supposed to mess with the master socket but I did mine and they didn't bat an eyelid. You could also claim it was like that when you moved in ;)

my current contract ends in 34 days, with bt for full fibre 900 halo 3 with complete wi-fi, i was paying £61.69, now i know i was paying a lot of money for that package, i have looked at "my offers" on my bt app but its really bad what they are offering, which roughly works out the same price for another 24 months, is it correct that ee are taking over bt ?, as when i have seen their offers i can get full fibre 900 for around £45, and the top package 1.6gig for £70, considering its only me and the wife now at home and kids have left, fibre 900 is still the best option ?, the snob in me wants the fastest available 1.6gig but thats a lot of money.

Just go PlusNet, even cheaper. Also 300 Mbps is likely ample for most households.
i live in north wales, so unsure on providers around my area, to be honest ive always stayed with bt and abit worried the broadband service will be good if i went somewhere else, but like sky tv the price is getting out of hand.

even though theirs only me and the wife, i do have plenty devices wired to the router (pc ,console ,streaming boxes ,ring cameras etc

BT are one of the most expensive providers, and not one of the best.

im starting to agree with that statement now, do i contact bt over the phone to see if they offer anything less, or do i just google best broadband deals in my area ?

I am with Plusnet and have been for many years. On the few occasions that I have had an issue I have found it helpful that all levels of customer service is provided by teams in the uk.

Thankyou for your input, problem I have is the wifey, she has only heard about the big company names like Bt, Vodafone, Sky etc, she will probably never have heard about plusnet

My contract ends with BT in about 2 weeks time and I'm off.
I've been paying £50.43 a month for 900mb and whilst I've had some good prices (and free Xbox Game Pass) out of them over the last 3 or so years, they couldn't do a great deal when I called them with a month to go.
I was offered the same price to move to EE or £43 a month to remain with BT. I left it and started the move to another provider.

Within minutes of doing that, BT emailed me with an offer to stay - £33.99 a month for 900mb.
I'm still leaving.

I did phoned them up over the weekend, at first the man said I had the top package with all the whole halo 3 wifi and disc stuff (hasn’t made a difference).
So I asked him for basic full fibre 900 price and was offered £45.00, which I turned down and the call somehow got disconnected, rang up again but spoke to another person who offered me the price of £49.99, was amazed and told her I was offered a cheaper price a few seconds ago but she wasn’t having any of it , so told her I will go elsewhere, she wasn’t bothered at all, I haven’t received any emails regarding any price to tempt me to stay, so with 32 days left of my bt contract left and as stated in my previous posts I have been looking at other providers for full fibre 900.

For some reason I am being charged £80 for my broadband...

Here's the story it was around £80 when I was on the 80Mb package. Contact expired in Dec 2024. Resigned again.

A few weeks ago they notified me that I could now get full fibre.

Listen to this.... I was paying for phone, TV and internet around £125. After signing the contract again but getting the full works TV package they told me it would be £115.

I thought great. What they didn't tell me is that that was the discount price that ran for 3 months.

So last month I noticed it jumped to £140. Call them up and they say it's because the discounts expired. I was a little shocked as they didn't tell me the £115 was the discounted rate.

A few weeks later call them up about the fibre and the guys like you do know it's due to go up to £200 soon. I was shocked. Apparently the TV package was still on the discount rate and the total I was going to pay was around £200!

I negotiated my contract on the idea that I was paying £115 and it ends up almost twice that at £200.

They then offer me the same deal as I have but fibre 900 for around £174. I checked numerous times this would be the max I would pay this time.

But yes I am paying around £80 for internet and when I asked why they said it's because you are in contact... Well I wasn't in contact in Dec 2024 so why did you offer me a package where the internet was costing £80!

I guess it's my own fault for not checking the prices but why are existing customers treated so badly?!

Whoohoo! Full Fibre is now installed and connected. It only took emailing the Openreach CEO to sort it out. But to be fair he did reply to my email and got things going towards resolving the sitution.

BT swapped my parent's over to digital voice today - only they've not bothered to send an updated hub or any adapter so their landline is dead, meanwhile they can't be bothered to update the area to full fibre either - I thought they weren't switching anyone to digital voice who didn't have full fibre.

EDIT: Actually turns out they were sent an updated hub ages ago which does support digital voice but at the time there was no plans to switchover so it got put to one side/no one realised there was any relevance.
