Thank you for trying out pfsense with a livecd, very much appreciate that.
Did you type in the username and password on the wan interface on pfsense or do any additional configuration like reboot the modem, are you on (fake) static or dynamic ip with bt?
My ISP for FTTC is actually IDNet, but as far as I can tell it’s exactly the same service as the Business Infinity connections I deal with. I’ve got a single static IP that’s automatically assigned.
I don’t really know pfsense, but here’s what I did…
I booted from the live CD and assigned the LAN and WAN interfaces. I connected the LAN interface directly to my laptop, and the WAN interface was temporarily connected to a spare switch (so the system could see that the interface was up).
I then connected to the webConfigurator and went down to Interfaces->WAN. I selected PPPoE, entered my username and password, saved and then applied updates.
Finally I just unplugged my normal router from the modem and connected the pfsense WAN in its place. It connected without any further intervention and picked up the correct WAN IP.
Nothing was power cycled. No configuration was done beyond that mentioned above.
