There are plenty more over at my site

Nice set there but the processing needs improving, they all lack contrast and all look over-exposed. Maybe your monitor calibration is different to the standard? Try viewing the images on another computer.

I agree with you. I really like the two panning shots, and you certainly seem to be getting the right 'style' of images but they just lack that final 'umph'.

yep nearly all seem overexposed on my screen.. did you shoot raw?

I will just comment on the exposure as well, needs some contrast and saturation boost.

Good set overall, some of the non action shots I personally don't think works, but number 5 is by far my favourite...lovely capture :)

have to say

all my photos come out looking this

ive been wondering how to achieve the "oomph" you guys refer to

any tips ?

Moving objects need that uumph from a technique called panning. This is where you are actually panning yourself following a car that is moving. As a result of this the car will be sharp and the static background will be a motion blur giving the car a sense of movement and speed.

Also you need to do some heavy tweeking in photoshop to play with contrast, saturation etc etc...this will make the photos 'pop' and really stand out from the crowd.

Lots of people on here can offer great advice for photoshop and the like so just hit us with questions.

Not trying to talk down to you, but only half the work is done when the photo is taken! Incidently I wish my first motorsport meet had come back with photos this good :)

thanks for the advise, i didn't have time to adjust any levels, etc so just quickly cropped, etc.

when i have more time i'll give it another go.

is there any other format other than RAW :D

What would be the best place to take a meter reading on site to stop the shots being overexposed and hence cut down the post processing time

What I've done in the past is shoot a few shots in TV mode & check the histogram / LCD & see if it's under/over exposed. I then change to full manual with the same shutter speed but the aperture set to +/- whatever automatic settings were :)

Second Version:

First Version:

Playing in photoshop, which is better:
which is better.jpg

top left = Second Version
bottom left = First Version
top right = some else's attempt

Which do you recon is better or is there still a long way to go, incase you haven't noticed i know very little about photoshop but do my best.

just need to edit and upload them but aint got time. should i post new thread or keep it all in here? :)

posting in here would be stealing my thunder heheheh, feel free to post here or start a new thread the choice is yours

Dr_D - you can push the editing a bit more than that. Once you have the white balance correct up the colour, contrast and sharpening.

Overlag - too much empty space around the car

How do i know when the white balance is correct, cause that shot looks exactly like it what i was looking at.
