Budget gaming PC < £260

Hi, I'm building a PC for my brother and supplying with some 800Mhz RAM and an 8800GT so they don't need to be included. He also has the basics like Optical drives a monitor and I think a HD.

He needs:
CPU
Mobo
PSU
Case
Possibly a HD as he only has an old IDE 70GB one...

So basically would like to know what the best possible Price v Performance build I could do for that price at the moment? Was thinking a e5300 build or Phenom 955, Tried an i5 system but it's just slightly too much. Not 100% sure, so any advice or build reccomendations would be appreciated and sight variations on the budget doesn't matter too much.

Also he's probably going to want to play some of the latestish games on atleast playable settings, not asking much... lol

You'd definitely be looking at used if you want a gaming PC on that budget.

Just put together something quick, that would do the job no? (280 with the free shipping, could get a cheaper case like the genesis)

Take £11 off from shipping (You joined over a year ago so I think it might be free, I can't remember the exact criteria).

It's only a quick spec thrown together but it should do you fine

Your build is over budget and you missed out the hard drive

Changed the board to one that is actually going to support the ram

Left the antec 300 though, a new computer without a nice case? It can't be done!

Considering he wants it just for gaming I'd say you can't go wrong with the dual core. Sure if he was going to do video encoding and such maybe that extra core is going to help out.

I wish more games supported more than 2 cores but they just don't.

Also, he's getting a lot nicer case, that other one looks tacky as! maybe it's just because I <3 my antec

Dont think you can do better than daniel's spec. Brilliant cpu there and with the shipping free its exactly on budget.
