Budget home cinema satellites idea?

I have been going through my loft and found my old logitech Z-680 5.1 computer speakers.

I was thinking my mate currently has an Onkyo TX-SR606 with no speakers while he saves for a decent 7.1 setup. Would the satilites from the Z680 work with the amp? I believe they are 8ohm THX with iirc Tang Band drivers, I'm sure they used to be rather good for pc speakers back in the day.

Basically if he wired these up with to his amp and sub would they work/not be totally crap?

Electrically the satellites will be okay if they're 8 ohms. The dispersion pattern might be more suited to desktop use rather than typical distances for a home cinema, but that won't stop them producing sound.

The sub might be a bit more of a challenge. AFAIK it doesn't seem to have a dedicated multichannel 5.1 input, so there's no way to drive the sub on its own directly as you would do a proper home cinema sub.

The sub wouldn't be used anyway as he has a rather nice monitor audio sub of some description, we were just toying with the idea of using the logitech sats. Which we did last night and they work rather well, until he gets a proper set.
