Hi guys.

Was wondering what I could get for £400 without needing a case, os and storage? And how could it be improved by going up to £500.

Cheers in advance!

I ran a 965 at 4GHZ - 130W TDP and a 4870 which was heavily OC- 160W TDP - 3 Hard Drives - 15w~ ea and other ancillary. I was defiantly maxing it out most probably but it never stuttered for the 2 years I had it.

On a CX400W Corsair Unit.

People going for 850w+ for these systems are just throwing money in the bin

I wouldn't necessarily say "throwing money in the bin" since the user might have two high end graphics card, or one with the intention of buying another. So with a card such as the R9 290 which easily pulls 300w, a 850w PSU would be a very realistic option.

Let's not forget load levels as well and how efficient a PSU can operate, after about 50% efficiency tends to drop. Also another factor to take into consideration is noise levels as the fan will have to operate at a higher RPM thus make more noise when having to deliver a high load.

However bringing it back on topic, in this situation we aren't exactly talking a SLI/Crossfire build so 450w is plenty :)

Thanks for all the help guys. I have no need for a drive so should go for a stronger PSU?

How well would this system run skyrim at 1080p?
