Build for vst music production

cpu heavy applications i would say go x79 for extra cache on the lowest i7 (3820 - 10Mb) and also upgrade the cpu to 6 core in the future. But yes, you would need a wee gpu with it. There are raw benchies on other forums for x79 system and they look good.

I understand why Propellerheads don't want to support VSTs in Reason. As soon as they do that, they are no longer in control of the software and pretty soon people will complain about it crashing all the time etc. Reason is designed for creating electronic/dance music, a lot VSTs aren't build for that purpose – square pegs, round holes, blah blah blah...

Cubase (like Logic, Protools etc) is an all-rounder, you can use it for any kind of music/sound production. I would say it's not all that user-friendly for what I do, but it's what I'm used to now. I should have learnt Ableton Live –*I see that as the crossover between Reason and VST-compatible DAWs.

Yeah, Propellerheads are actually starting to use 3rd party entensions, not sure if youve seen it. But it's still small compared to other DAW's, but, like you said, i understand that it might cause problems with function, it doesnt happen with other DAW's does it? I havent used any others though so i dont know how common a problem it is. Yeah i'm very tempted to buy Ableton live, it's perfect to rewire over to Reason, pretty much a perfect combo then...
