Hey,

I'm wanting to get a really good desktop PC but I haven't a clue what's good at the moment and would like recommendations! If you could literally recommend everything I would need it would be super helpful (from RAM to motherboard, GFX card and monitor etc).

I'd like it to be able to run GTA V pretty well amongst some of the bigger recent games as well as live streaming/recording in decent 1080 for YouTube.

It can either be a build it yourself recommendation or a good gaming desktop that is already built.

I appreciate any advice and recommendations!

Since you've stated Recording/Stream - start away your off to a start with Ryzen 7 ... woop woop. Check out Gamersnexus review

http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2993-amd-1700-vs-intel-7700k-for-game-streaming?showall=1

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £2,034.00
(includes shipping: £14.10)

Went all out with the Ti but 1080 should do you well to be fair .
m.2 drive to load your OS and other apps with a large HDD .
8 Pack ram, might not hit 3600hz speeds but 3466hz could be within reach
1700 ryzen 7 should be able to hit 1800x speeds with 360 AIO keeping it cool

another recommended build with same case and AIO, but aorus Ti card for the use of VR

again, you could cut costs down with going from a Aorus 7 X370 board to a Gaming 3 B350 chipset- thats about £110 right there .
I just went to hit max budget .
scaling to a 1080, B350 Chipset , 256GB M.2 OS could land you a 1440p screen - nothing fancy above 60hz or G-sync but would be nice- or a 1080p with G-sync and high frame rates

Edit: ha I wasn't the first to comment in the end, but hey ho he's my input :

Maybe something like this if you build it yourself and use the remaining money for a monitor.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,805.94
(includes shipping: £13.20)

Here's an alternative self build with the addition of a monitor.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,990.54
(includes shipping: £14.70)

And here's a prebuilt with the addition of a smaller monitor.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
  • 1 x Radbox Pro AMD VR Ready Gaming PC - AMD Ryzen 7 1700X, Radeon Vega 64 8GB = £1,798.03
    • Case:In-Win 101 Midi-Tower Case - Black Window
    • Graphics:Sapphire Radeon RX VEGA 64 8GB HBM2 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Stand Alone
    • Memory:Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey (TLGD416G24
    • CPU:AMD Ryzen 7 Eight Core 1700X 3.80GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
    • Primary Solid State Drive:Samsung 960 EVO Polaris 250GB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive
    • Secondary Solid State Drive:Unwanted
    • Storage Drive:Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD - OEM (ST2000DM006)
    • Sound Card:Unwanted
    • WIFI:Unwanted
    • Operating System:Microsoft Windows 10 64-Bit DVD - OEM (MS-KW9-00139)
    • Security Software:Bullguard Anti-Virus 2017 - 1 PC 1 Year **Offer Price**
  • 1 x LG 24MP59G 24” 1920x1080 IPS 1ms 75Hz Freesync Widescreen LED Gaming Monitor= £149.99

Total: £1,971.12
(includes shipping: £23.10)

If you like the idea of a bigger monitor whether it's for an AMD or Nvidia graphics card then there are cheaper Ryzen prebuilts to fit in the bigger better higher priced screen.

^^ that is a nice pre-built. Just a shame they dont offer Vega 56 as thats the best value to money for AMD - currently beating the 1070 and under then 1080 in performance and price

(includes shipping: £14.10)

i thought the 56 was to 64 what the 1070 is to the 1080? mean some prebuilts are nice, but youd have thought the 56 be more common choice for the price to performance.

theres a good jump in performance between the 1070/80 that even OC cant match unlike the 970 which could get close enough to the 980. AMD have the same problem now as the 56 can match the 64 and be cheaper and use less power .

One thing is that if GTA is your focus, the game where you want best performance on, you're better off with Nvidia (e.g. GTX 1080 > Vega 64). If there are other games on your mind, look at youtube benchmark vids for them to help with your decision.

Isn't GTA 5 more cpu bound?

With a weak CPU, yes. With a decent quality CPU, it's GPU from then on (plus a few more frames the higher the CPU can be overclocked. Memory too, to a lesser extent. But the biggest difference by that point will be GPU). There's quite a difference in average frame rate between GTX 1080 and Vega 64 when both use the same decent quality CPU. It's just a game that favours Nvidia.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I've received advice from a very helpful person on the website through the pop-up support area and he provided me with a build that isn't too expensive. Can you let me know if you think this is good athat this is all I need to get it going when it arrives? I didn't want any fancy cases/led lights etc. (obviously exclude mouse, keyboard, speakers)

Also let me know if there is something you would suggest changing, adding or if you notice something is wrong or incompatible.
TOTAL: £1374.51
(includes shipping £19.62)

As for the OS. I have Windows 10 on a CD with a key but I also noticed you can buy Windows 10 Home keys for not too much online and wondered what would be the best way to go about it. I know yoiu can buy it from OCUK on a USB stick or whatever but it seems to be a lot more than some places, especially if I just want the license key. Can I simply load my own Windows 10 onto a USB stick of mine, plug it into the new build computer and install it that way and buy a new license key as some reputable places sell the key for £20 or so in some places???

---
Also whilst I'm here, when I get my gaming PC, can somebody give me some advice on what program is best to use for recording gameplay. Thanks!

Whoever it was they didn't do a great job.

No reason to go with a 6700K/Z170 board. Either go with a 7700K/Z270 or Ryzen.

A GTX 1080 is overkill for 1080p. A GTX 1070 would be more than fine.

Only 8GB Ram ? Not great. I would want 16GB for a new gaming pc.

A 120GB SSD will fill up fast. A 240GB/250GB should be the minimum.

The psu isn't that great for a build like this. Even a Corsair CX 2017 version would be better.

Last of all you have a FreeSync Monitor paired with Nvidia. Again not ideal. AMD/Freesync or Nvidia/G-Sync is the way to go.

Here is a cheaper build using a Vega 56 gpu (Pre-order) and FreeSync monitor. It is a TN panel though unfortunately so not as good as an IPS. You can check out the Vega owners thread in the gpu section for info about flashing the 64 bios onto it for a bit of extra performance.

The 6 core Ryzen cpu will cope with streaming, although the R7 1700 would be better.

A 550W psu should still be enough for Vega. There is the Corsair TX650M for £83.99 if you want a bit more headroom. Only semi-modular but a good psu.

Thanks for letting me know. That is why I checked with you guys as someone who knows nothing I knew it was wise to run it by you lot first!

I guess I was also trying to see what one could get with the ceiling amount being £1300/£1400 with a monitor instead.

Not sure if you're able to help with that or if that'll mean games like GTA V won't be very playable?

Sorry to be a pain but is it possible to get the best builds for £1400 with a monitor. I would like to record gameplay but I don't need a massive or fancy monitor, just one that will work with the build and isn't terrible.
