Ok ive got the following new build on my desk

Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) -
Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-00599)
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ)
Coolermaster Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black
Sony Optiarc DRU-870S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - Retail

and a OCZ ModXstream-pro 700w psu

When i turn it on i got a contiuse short beep which state there is a power issue.

From the PSU i have 3 built in cables, one 8 pin, i know where that goes, a 24pin, this is spit into a 20 and 4 pin that stick together into the atx power thingy, and then a 4 pin with yellow and black coloured cables, i cant see where this should go (and i dont think it needs to.

Can anyone suggest what may be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

The 4 pin would go with boards that only have 4 pin power for cpu, yours has 8 pin ;)

Is the memory in the correct slots, usually 2nd & 4th from the cpu socket, but check the manual to confirm.

Try a CMOS reset.

As you look at the motherboard, there should be an 8 pin plug socket to the left of the cpu mount. Have you definately plugged into that as well? If so, can you get the bios screen on boot?

i was going bonkers yesterday, the psu i was going to use blew up. then i had to run around like a chicken to get a new one. Managed to find the OCZ on in a local store for a good price. Then i was getting the beep and i thought, oh bugger have i blown something when that psu went :(.

Bad times. Its amazing how tied we have become to computers and tech in general. But i suppose that is how we are developing as a species. I remeber before i had a mobile phone i could remeber most of my mates phone numbers, if you were to ask me now i dont think i know any of them.

So anyway, Win 7 installing, will need to grab AVG and stuff to protect me :)

Hows win7 for connecting to the internet? i just had my othermachine pluged straight into the router i cant recall if i needed to set anything up?

Anyway, ill scream if something goes wrong.

Thanks as allways
Brian.

You can, but its usually best to download the latest drivers for your mobo from the manufacturers website if you can. Dont forget the latest gfx drivers too.
As for AVG, I personally found Avast! to run a little better with Win7... :)
