Build outside of case

When putting components together and testing on top of motherboard box is it ok to do this for the length of time it would take to install OS and updates, say a couple of hours or would it get too hot.

I've run systems like this for ages.

Just make sure you put the board on something non conductive, phone book works well.

Add a fan next to the board if your worried about cooling, but for a quick OS install you will be fine.

I've seen some videos on Youtube of people using systems outside the box for intensive benchmarks, so should be fine.

Yes it's fine to do this providing you don't put it on the anti-static bag the motherboard comes in.

Just build it on the motherboard box, it's the perfect size and non-conductive
