Hi all, I'm building a budget gaming rig for a friend, he needs everything (monitor, tower, mouse, keyboard, the lot). I have a S775 mobo, 500W PSU, optical drives, and a spare 12cm fan I'm going to give him for £50 so with that in mind I put this together

Have I skimped in areas too much, have I spent more on things that aren't worth it? Thanks for the feedback.

Have you looked at a Dell ST2410 monitor? There are some good deals to be had on a good spec 24in monitor

Cheap as poss, I did suggest an i5 rig, but it was too much. He said £700 TOPS, with monitor etc, so even with my old mobo and psu this is pushing it.

If you really want to cut costs have a look on members market, if you haven't already done so. Might be able to get a few bargains.:)

dont get that mouse please...

i have one and its just not for gaming at all. your better off saving for a half decent one.

Lol, I did think that mouse looked horrible. I use the microsoft one which isn't much better. But overall, what do you think of the rest of it? Should I push him to his limit with a better quad with decent cache? Might change the cooler cuz I know it fouls one ram slot. hmmm

I think that's about as good as your going to get to be honest mate. I didn't realize RAM prices had shot up so much recently!!

You could always cheap out a little on the RAM and get 2GB? It would free up £35 or so for other things and you could always upgrade to 4GB later. Just a random idea...
