Am just heading over to ADSLguide to scope out this deal, thought id ask you guys aswell. Am currently with Telewest 4meg, and very happy, but Croydon has recently been LLU upgraded, and a few times BUlldog have phoned me offering an 8meg service for £9.37 or something similar, with no phone line. WHats the catch here, is it severly capped, or speed capped at any points?

it's capped to hell for £9. That or you have to sign up to a 10 year contract. That or it's an ADSL2+ 8 meg service perhaps, doubt it tho.

well you need the phoneline to get the service in firstplace and yes it would be capped rediclious,

ive signed up 21.50 a month unlimited 8 meg IF i can get it, and 10.50 a month for phone rental, minus the staff discount applied by my sisters freind its a lot cheaper :D

Probably! Although an ofcom investigation speaks for itself really

Not really, the results and penalties/lack of them would speak for itself.
BT have been investigated countless times, nowt normally comes of it.

the catch is the awful customer service, dismal billing and unreliable service and more ?
Things have changed over the last few months. If you have a quick look at adslguide forums you will agree Bulldog is on a roll atm.

While you at it check other LLU providers like Freedom2Surf, UKonline, HomeChoice, Bethere, I think you will agree with me.

Having spent 3 hellish months with Freedom2Surf, I'm glad to say I should have never left bulldog in the 1st place and happy to be back with them.

Only problem I can think of atm is the Billing/6 months contract.

Bulldog customer service and billing can be a bit dodgy, but I really can't complain about the speeds. 900KB/s from a decent server... that's nearly a megabyte per second. :o

The catch is that you are unlikely to get the full 8mb.. I've got 2 family members who both have bulldog, neither get more than 4mb.. it also keeps disconnecting them both constantly.. So I would say its fairly unreliable aswell.

Atleast one of them have massive problems with his billing aswell.. Not getting billed for months, then getting billed for stuff he hasnt got, etc..

I'd stick with Telewest instead.. Try their 10mb service.

That would more likely be the line quality causing the modem to lose sync if the rate is down to 4meg.

Also your maxing the ADSL tech out. 8meg is a max speed service, anything puhsed to it's max will be less reliable than if it was running lower within it's capability. However in comparison with other providers it's a good service.
We pay BT tens of thousands of £ per year for megatream leased lines which they carry maintenance out on mid afternnon without warning, and sometimes they just break. So far one has done it 5 times in 3 months.

Yes, isn't the whole LLU thing a BT trial at the moment. Loads of different companies are having problems so I think you have to take the rough with the smooth at the moment to get the higher speeds.

Incidentally, i'm on F2S LLU and have had major issues which are hopefully resolved now.

A bit off topic but can I ask a quick question re Bulldog.....

I signed up yesterday and am swapping from Pipex. At the time of signing up, the Bulldog guy didnt ask for my migration code from Pipex, I assumed coz I was changing from a BT line to Bulldog so I didnt query it. However, when I signed in with my login they gave me, thre was a space on one of the pages that asked for it....

Anyone know if it would speed the whole process up or makes no difference??

I think your getting confused with MaxDSL (which uses BT's equipment) as apposed to LLU which doesnt...

Bulldog are known for having dodgy CS and problems with their phone service, but I'd gladly sign up with them given the choice. 8mbit download, faster than normal upload, and also lower latency than BT Wholesale provided dsl.

I have used bulldogs customer service cos i have a crappy line in my flat, and they have been excellent, and now have a stable service on my bad line (wasnt bulldogs fault just BT and whoever installed it). I have called teir CS many times and they always delivered, so on the customer service front they get 10/10. And the service is quick too.

During the process of joining Bulldog last week the Customer Support have been fantastic, they left voice msg, 2 txt msg, 3 emails and also 2 letters all in 8 days.

Now tell me that is rubbish service.
