Buy a GTX 670 now?

Not sure on your maths there!

7850 is £200+ (ignoring specials), and a 670 is £300+

So 670 is exactly 50% more expensive!

What you gotta remember is you never get the same value as you move towards the top of the range. Mid range will always be better value. BUT IMO the 670 is not that bad value in todays market (sadly over inflated as it is :mad:). The 670 is a GREAT card.;)

It's not just the pounds per fps that's important (even though most of the time a 670 will be 50 - 75 percent faster, some games even reaching 100 percent). In situations where a 7850 will give you 40 fps, a gtx 670 could give you 65 which is a lot more playable. No doubt the 7850 is a decent card but it can't compare to the power of a 670. It's about on par with a 570, maybe a bit slower stock vs stock.

Whilst your correct that the 670 is roughly 63% dearer you can't work value for fps that way.
Like you said
670 - £2.90/frame
7850-£2.55/frame
So if i'm correct that works out at £2.55/£2.90= a difference of 12% .
So as long as the 670 gives you a 12% increase in fps over the 7850,
then the 670 gives you better value for your money.

If I use the link you provided the fps was atleast 12% different in one game and the rest was over 20% this using a resolution of 1920 x 1200.
The majority of games the % difference was 25-40% in favour of yes you guessed it the 670,
so again as stated by spixelspixel 670 is the best bang for buck of the 2 cards.
Can't believe i'm doing math at this time of night(head hurts now):)

I appreciate and understand the 670 is a quicker card, that's blatantly obvious. But your not really helping with the value for money analysis by just saying one card can't be compared to the other.

:confused: Even if the 7850 might give slightly more fps per pound, the fps the 670 gives you will be higher and result in a better gaming experience. 60fps @ £2.90 per frame is better value than 35-40 fps @ £2.55 per frame.

Overall at 200vs300 pounds the 670 is better value for what you get, in my opinion. You can't go wrong with either card though.

Your getting yourself a little confused. Your 12% figure is suggesting that the GTX 670 would need to be 12% better £ per frame. Not just per frame.

So your saying its better value because it will give more playable FPS? If so, thats actually a good point that I hadnt considered.

From the benchmark info on AnandTech the 7850 only manages an average fps in Crysis: Warhead of 43fps. So there a chance the card might dip below 30fps and be considered un-playable in some sections.
 
Yes you used my figures which were £/FPS ratio figures. So a percentage difference calculation on a £/FPS figure which give you just that.

For the record, I'm an accountant, I do cost vs benefit analysis on a daily basis for external clients.
