There won't be anything new with more than 4 cores for ages - even then it'll be broadwell-E, which will fit in current x99 motherboards and is only a refresh, really (I guess, from what we know now).
So if you want a 6+ core, now is a good time to buy. There's a wide range of boards (including a few nice matx) and DDR4 is getting pretty cheap.
The new CPU's could potentially lower the prices of Haswell-E but I doubt it'll be by much. Stulid made a thread of some of the new motherboards coming with skylake and they are gorgeous, going to be pricey though.
All depends on what you plan to use it for and if you are one of these people that upgrades a lot
