Ok the time has cometh of me to buy a cooler so i can oc my cpu..

I was gonna get the tuniq tower but there out of stock atm.. So would the Noctua NFU12-F be a ok substitute ? Ive heard there great too, Would i have any trouble fitting it into my ds3p ?

I could wait for the tuniqs to come back into stock.. But like all people i want it now :p

Only looking to get to 3.2 ghz maybe 3.4 if lucky.. Not some mad high speeds.

Ok, il probably get the Noctua. That review was intresting but it was with a Quad core, which im guessing will run hotter than my c2d.. And it was overclocked like crazy.

I just need conformation that it will fit in my ds3p :)

I like the fact the Noctua has the 90 degree angle changes.. Would come in very handy in my case.

:o A pc shop the next town over from me has Arctic Freezer Pros going for £12.. I could pick one up after work tomorrow.

Would these suffice for a 3.0 / 3.2 ghz overclock on my e6600 ?

go by the review and get the ultra extreme. remember you only need to buy the cooler once, it will last you for a good few cpu upgrades so you may as well get the best there is right now.

Seeing as you confirmed your order my post might be abit late.... I am using a TT120 keeps my E6300 clocked to 2.8GHZ at a max of 38 degrees but it is lapped. Using a Scythe fan, quiet as a mouse. Excellent cooler.

How much is the Noctua compared to the Ultra extreme? If the performance is one or two degrees but the cost is quite a big difference then I would go for the Noctua. It does fit the DS3P with no problems.

bah poor you, nocturna really isn't the best, ultra 120 extreme as you know, plus an enzotech cooler is getting a lot of praise atm too, plus i would have the tuniq over it too.

Noctua*

Well the Noctua's are actually better than the Tuniq Tower, from the reports I have heard from most people and their temperatures. Although it is very much hit and miss as case airflow and other things affect the temperatures too. The coolers in the £30 bracket are all decent, and there isn't much between them. The Ultra may well be the best option, but what are you calling 'best'? The performance? The performance is 'best', well its better but you have to way up whether a cooler that is £50 (inc. a fan) is worth the money considering it would only be a few degrees less in comparison. I think he made the 'best' decision.

Anyone have any idea when the TT120 will be back, was just about to order it? :) The Extreme does not come with a fan AFAIK, is that true? That would bump up the price a bit? :)

Also, the Noctua doesn't score that bad in the tests i've seen, much better than my current Zalman cooler, but it isn't better than the TT120 either? :)

Well it came in the post this morning an ive got it fitted. Ive had to take the fan off my side window though, Or it wouldn't of fitted :(

Im getting 2 different temps in T.A.T and coretemp though. At stock clocks.

Core temp is showing 25c at idle

And T.A.T is showing 29c - 30c, also at idle

Under full load im getting 45c on both programs..

Seems abit high to me :o

Ok ive dropped my voltage and these are my temps now.

Idle on the whole.. Is slightly higher now

But fully load temps have dropped 5c

When i was in bios it said cpu temp was 19c ... does this count as idle :p

But with the voltage now lower wouldnt it lag abit if i overclock ?

Ok then, i set the voltage back to stock.

I then ( following the noob overclockers guide ) did what that said. And then raised my fsb to 334 so now im on 3ghz :D

At idle im at 30c .. And at full load im at 47c

Im betting my higher temps are due to my case.. Its old. Pretty cramped and only cost me £30 :p Froogle "Warrior Gamers Case" And you will see what it is.

If i got a new, decent brand, decent size case my temps would probably drop a lot.

Also the fan i had to take off the side window ive put on top of my cooler. In a kinda "push me - pull me" airflow.
