Buying a car with a private plate on the car

I am buying a car with a private plate on there, he said he cant be bothered to take it off as it takes 3 weeks.

Are there any downsides to this? He said when i get round to it, it will cost £80 to put the origional plates back on, and i can get around £300-400 for the private plate if i sell it on.

Some advice please guys? Is this true? Do you buy cars with the private plate still registered on there? can i expect any other future costs? etc

BTW done a HPI check on the car by typing in the private plate, looks legit, he changed the origional reg to this private one in 24/01/06

No disadvantages but it's unlikely to be worth £500-£600 if you sell it on.

At best you'll get someone to pay the £80 transfer fee to take it off your hands, unless its something properly good in which case the original owner would probably have kept it.

its nothing special, means nothing to me. Ill post the plate up when i get the car. Dont wanna get guzumped by my offer on the car. Will be picking it up friday morning so ill get some pics up saturday.

Also depends what you've bought as to whether I'd keep it on there. A private plate on a 206 LX just looks ridiculous and poncy, whereas one can finish off a Sports model or a prestige car quite nicely.

yep, my brother bought a car with a private plate and then after everything had gone through and it was in his name they took the private plate off, it was easier that way.

i think there are number plate auction places on t'internet isn't there?

just out of interest what is the plate...

its not P13 CEY by any chance is it - someone bought it before i could even dream of being able to stump up £4k for a plate

My mate had a Specced/modded Honda CRX with a plate "H3 CRX". Was a hell of a car, it went like the Clappers, the Vtec was had me pinned to the seat when he put the foot down.
