Hey guys,

my current car has had it, car giant has offered me 1800 and i have a budget of around £5000 thats before deducting the 1800 car giant has offered me...

problem is as I only know of car giant who will give me a part exchange deal, i dont know whether this is good or bad, its an audi a3 1998 with 115,000 miles on the clock...

should i take that money from car giant and part exchange? or should i go to another dealer for a similar deal? i dont know?

please help...

if anyone knows any good dealers who do part exchanges and have good cars i.e. audi's etc at good prices in north london, please let me know

look forward to recieving your comments.

im desperate :(

thanks in advance

All dealers will part exchange. It also seems rather strange that an Audi A3 with reasonable mileage thats only 9 years old has 'had it' - what have you done to it?

Whats your budget for the new car? If you dont have much perhaps its time to move away from Audi's.

That depends on what "had it" means. For me that means its dead or dying.

They'll have valued it without driving it. Provided it doesnt LOOK like a shed, I wouldnt have expected him to get any extra for it were it mechanically mint.

Ah fair enough. Only ever bought one car and never sold/traded one in so I should know to keep my mouth shut really :D

water is leaking from the engine, so far its been pressure tested and no water leaks have been found.

Apparently the head gasket may be cracked, or the chambers within, to investigate that costs £125 inc vat and if it needs replacing its an additional £400 plus labour etc etc

Therefore as much as I could do without the extra expense at this stage of my life, I have no choice but to trade it in for more reliable vehicle I feel anyway...

what do you guys reckon? do you think audi will take it as part exchange?

please help

thanks in advance

4 - 5 K....

I was looking at the audi A2, what do you think?

Alternatively how about an audi a4

specs: low mileage, low as possible, 4 door, petrol, no higher then 1.8, not red in colour,

How is spending £3k better than £500 when you could do without this financial strain at the moment?

I really dont think your budget or your requirements lend themselves to an Audi. Any low mileage Audi for £4-5k is going to be barely any newer than your A3, and if you'd rather trade a car in than fix a headgasket what are you going to do with any problems you get with it?

You need to come down a bit and get a Ford or something. Thought about a Focus 1.6?

tesla: spending 3k now will mean spending less in the future, its more cost effective for the future, and i would spend 2.5k if you deduct the 500 for the work that is required on my current car....what you have to think about is £500 now and then what later? since feb i have spend around a grand on this a3 with things going wrong here and there, prior to which I only forked out on general maintenance work like services etc...

fox: a budget of 4 - 5 k after getting 1800 for my current vehicle would enable me purchase a 52 plate, audi a2 with 36k on the clock, which again would probably last me 10yrs pls...Audis are good reliable vehicles as long as they are maintained...Any future probs would not cost me £500 a go probably a quarter of that for a service etc etc...

Oh yeah, I forgot getting a newer car would guarantee that nothing can go wrong.

You cannot say you are only spending £2.5k as the work on your car would cost £500. You are spending £3k instead of £500, not £2.5k.

Also, your response to fox is very contradictory of your current situation.

I'm sorry but you are wrong to assume that an Audi will not throw you up big bills. Older prestige cars DO cost money to repair and keep running. You should know this as you are getting rid of your current Audi for this very reason!

If you are the sort of person who cannot cope with a £500 repair bill then do not buy an Audi, it is that simple - you will simply find yourself in the same position again be it 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years down the line.

Aren't A2's quite costly to service? Girl at work was looking at one and whilst they only need a service every 20k, when they do need doing its quite pricey. She also found that the majority for sale were either high 30's k miles or high 50's k miles which says a lot.
