Buying & Commute to London

All this mortgage talk has got me thinking.

And renting although not a crime seems like a waste of money.

What areas in greater London(suburbs) etc are cheap affordable and have less than 1hr commute to Hammersmith.(west London in particular)

Can something be bought for <160k mark

Commute to London is an interesting situation.

You'll find a point where further out can in some cases be quicker, due to high speed trains vs stopping services.

160k is going to be tough in 'Central' London, but achievable in 'Greater' London. I currently live in Bromley (Bromley South->Victoria is sub 20 minutes by Train) and 160k would get you something in a nice 'town in its own right' area which has plenty of tree lined streets, quiet at night, and plenty of parks.

You could maybe consider Watford (Watford Junction->Euston is sub 15 mins)....
