buying out of date food

went to tesco's yesterday and bought some muesli, opening it this morning i find its out of date ( dec 05 ) :O

now i personally dont find it acceptable, and plan on returning it to see what they say. the only problem is i used to work at that store, so know i will be fobbed off.
what does everyone suggest?

They should be ok with taking it back, and offering a refund/replacement

If not, make some noise and get everyone to look at you copping a strop

Go in, be polite and don't kick off. They can't fob you off.

thats disgraceful. that sort of thing can be dangerous. id kick up a fuss about that.

As long as you have your reciept to show that you purchased it yesterday, they can't fob you off.

If they try to, just scatter the museli all over the floor whilst shouting "ich bein ein museli man! feel my wrath!"

No need, if you kick up a fuss, they will be less likely to want to help you. Be calm and simply ask for a refund/replacement

working there has shown me that by no means did it used to be a one off. used to get letters from trading standards all the time. i am sure they would find this very interesting.

yeah but if it had been a joint of meat then they would be in danger of a serious fine. just cos its ceareal doesnt mean they can get away with it.

i wouldnt be bothered about money back id want to know that it wasnt going to happen again.

If they attempt to fob you off, go to Trading Standards, or even Environmental Health.

6 months? A couple of weeks I could understand in a quiet store but a Tesco? :eek:

Yeah but if being nice if failing then blast off, I bought a micro scooter for my little cousin and it broke after the first day so i took it back to the store with my receipt but i'd lost the box, they were like im not refunding you without the box so i basically started shouting i want a refund i demand a refund this shop is a joke you must get all of your products from ethiopia the quality is a joke this isn't the first thing that's broke etc. and they eventually refunded me.

yep. lets put it this way, there are certain products i dont buy from tesco's because of it. so glad i am out of retail now.

How can something be so out of date? Do they keep it in the warehouse for a few months then put it on the shelf?

can be many reasons, sometimes we used to get food from the main depots that was out of date. some with short date codes. and people not rotating date codes.
