I put an ad in the local network magazine which goes out to 20,000 homes across the area offering photoshoots now I have my studio etc and just had my first call from it! :D

She booked in 3hrs on the 28th of November to do some shots of her daughter and NINE of her mates for an 18th bday present.

God this house is gonna be loud  What will the neighbours think seeing that lot pull up and leaving 3 hrs later? :p :D

Either way I'm pretty damn excited!! Firstly it shows that the money for the ad was worth spending, secondly it's another photoshoot so I'm always gonna be happy about that.

All I can say is....yipeee!!! :D

Many congrats dude! :D

Think you will be able to strut down the street looking pretty proud of yourself :D

Thats good news, i suppose you want to see how far you can go before leaving your full time job and doing this?

Just a few questions:

What equipment / lighting do you have available at your disposal?
Did they call to ask you any sample shots before booking you in?

Well I'm kind of unemployed....so it's a stab at trying to generate income with something I love doing. :)

Err, list is getting big now.

2 x 250w Prolinca Studio lights with soft boxes
Canon 430ex II
Studio backdrops and support stands
Canon 40D with either a 17-40L or 50mm 1.8

Got some fold up reflectors etc and some wireless flash triggers on the way incase I need to use the flash with the studio lights.

I'll be setting the studio up later anyway so I'll post a pic of it all :)

10 18 year old girls in your house...?

/quagmire
Aaaaaaalright.
/quagmire.

Seriously though, good luck to you on your endeavour mate. Here's to it growing into a thriving business.

Essex girls aswell ;)

Looking forward to seeing how the home setup looks, like Teaboy said it might be worth renting somewhere depending on how much you are charging?

Out of intrest how did you word the ad?

Cheers
Zaf,

Good stuff!

Studios can be built in one's house though! 2 of my friends have studios in their lofts via conversion, good stuff right there if you have a big loft with easy access!

Is your studio actually a dungeon? Good work if so :p

Well done mate :), how much was the ad in the first place?

Word of mouth = awesome, after you've done a few jobs, you should get reccomendations etc

Thanks guys, and for the record it'll be setup in my lounge. My lounge is 3.2m wide and the backdrops are 3m wide so it's just about big enough, pretty long to!

I'll set it all up this evening and take a picture for your guys to see :)

Ten 18 year olds you say? Do you need an assistant?

PS. Good work :)

haha, my friend Annie will be helping, who is also my makeup artist, but I know your pretty closeby so if I ever need another pair of hands or you want to do a photoshoot I'll give you a shout or feel free to do the same to me :)

Good luck Phate :)

How much did all that kit set you back?

Thank you :) - The lights cost me £190, the boxes £80, support stand kit was £60 and the backdrops were £40 each

:D

Nice one Phate. hmmm no ones suggested that you should post the results up afterwards shall i be the first! :p

lol I may post some :p

Zaf,

I've already looked into renting places around here...and it's stupidly expensive  - 8 grand a year for a place big enough and somewhere that needs a lot of time and money spent to make it into a studio worthy place as well!

hehe maybe :p

The ad was £150 and the magazine is run by a friend and I can pay him as and when I get the cash. I gave him the money for this months last week and have decided to go in for December's issue as well :) oh and I've been leaflet dropping last week and picking up my business cards this week to!

I was thinking about this the other day. I know a few other forums have done a studio meet, where they hire a studio for a few hours, get a couple of models in, them do photos, learn from each other, might be something to think about....perhaps based on the success of the London meet, if that ever happens :)

Was that London meet comment a subtle but not so subtle hint? :p

I will sort it don't worry :)
