I've been meaning to get down to Cabots Circus in Bristol to take some photographs for a while.. especially seeing as it's 5 minutes away. Anyway, this evening I had the time and a reason (ocuk competition) to go, and it seemed like a good time what with the Christmas decorations and the early darkness to take advantage of some low shutter speed action.

Some came out ok, but a lot fairly poorly. Anyway, C&C greatly appreciated especially regarding which to enter into this months competition :).

All look stunning, nice shots!

#3 and #4 are personal favourites, #3 just has that 'mystical' feel to it.

did you have any issue with security? been a few things in the evening post about security stopping people taking pics with 'professional looking' cameras

Interesting.

But I don't understand what I'm looking at. How did you get the extensive light trails in 1, 3 and 6?

One method would be to move the camera, then freeze the scene with flash but I doubt you had enough flash to light the entire centre. It wouldn't explain why the trails are not all in the same direction.

The decorations could be moving but that doesn't explain why there are trails from clearly static objects, such as doorways.

What is going on?

Andrew

Thank you! :)

None at all. There were a few walking around, some even stopped right next to me to look over the edge at some youths. I've only got a 400D and was using the standard 18-50mm at the time so not too pro looking though.

Fairly simple really! :)

If the shutter speed was six seconds for example, I just counted in my head to five and then moved the camera about. That is all :)

Not just 'professional looking' cameras .... recent letter in Venue (local listings mag) from someone who was taking a picture of their children in front of the Christmas lights had been told to stop by Security with the usual reasons of child/data protection. Needless to say next week was letter from site management assuring everyone that it was all a misunderstanding etc etc, security sent for re-education.
