just a thread for any bugs and known fixes. after 4 days of activision being as useful as a chocolate fireguard, I set about trying to fix my own issue myself.
Problem: Multi player freezes / hangs / locks up when launched
Solution:-
The non start multiplayer issue with modern warfare 2 seems to be with users who have steam pre installed for other titles before they installed the game. To fix this I had to uninstall MW2 and remove all other steam associated titles (believe me I tried every which way till Sunday before I did this, I have allot of steam titles), then uninstall steam itself.
a manual search of the users/"profile name"/appdata/local revealed no traces of the steam system. I then rebooted the system and reinstalled steam from the MW2 DVD as part of the game install. During this steam will download a bunch of updated content that is not otherwise available when using the pre installed steam client or a downloaded steam MSI package. It must be a fair amount as im on a ten mb cable line and my netspeed software was showing 800kb a second for almost 15 minutes.
Once Steam has done its thing, I continued the Install of the game and all is well.
To me though this is just another reason why steam was a bad bad choice for this game.
