Unlucky, but I guess someone has to. I hope it works out for you in the end*

For your survival stuff you ideally want an army surplus store and there is one in Croydon. I was going to get some stuff from there because I commute through Croydon, but I never got round to it. You'll be able to get your knife, flint, compass etc there.

It's going to be mighty cold camping this time of year. You won't get away with the £30 sleeping bags from Millets in this weather - you'll freeze to death. You'll need to think about a down bag which will set you back £80+ and a decent sleeping mat to get you off the ground.

Don't know how much you want to spend on a tent but Cotswolds have a huge range. There's a big one at Covent Garden with all the other hiking and outdoors shops so you can have a good browse. You'll be able to get all your other clothing up there as well.

If you want a very cool toy then get a Jetboil for quick cuppas out on the hills.

Hastings might be a good place to camp. Lots of hills and camp sites, plenty of pubs and chip shops for warm comfort food. No pier now though :(

*don't take too seriously ;)

+1 for trangia. Very neat and much better than a gas stove thing.

To the OP I've done wild camping in Dartmoor, dont expect too much hunting of the wildlife, do expect plenty of digging a hole for a poo.

You'd be better off booking flights across the Pacific and hoping there's a window... ¬_¬

Trying to do away with civilisation in the UK just won't work unless there's a zombie apocalypse.

You will need water purification tablets and first aid kit - and have at least a vague knowledge of first aid. You might not be far from civilization, but it might as well be a thousand miles if you do something silly and stick yourself in the leg with your knife! :p

I would definitely wait until Summer before you try this too. Going from zero experience to roughing it for a week is a big ask, nevermind trying it in November!

Wrong, my wife's freezing feet on my back at 2 in the morning is like nothing else I have ever experienced even when I was in the Army!

I would love my wife to use my back, unfortunately she has found a really nice warm spot that makes me feel as though I have immersed my parts in a bucket of ice water
