What Masters degree do you hold?
Msc: Petroleum Geoscience

What was your first degree in?
BSc: Geology

Why did you choose your masters course?
MSc Petroleum Geoscience is the standard route in to oil companies to work as a geologist. Its the bare minimum and really a PhD is preferable these days

How did you fund it?
Got a 2:1 in my BSc and was therefore eligible for government funding for the MSc. Staying at the same university and knowing the tutor who decided who got the government funded places helped as well.

Did the course help you find employment?
Yes - wouldnt have been possible without it

Heriot-Watt. Applying for summer placements next year now and it's pretty stressful haha. Never had to write a proper covering letter before, just been a case of "hi, looking for any waiters/bussers/barmen/etc?"

The careers advisory people at HW are pretty good, they should be able to help you out.

What Masters degree do you hold? - MEng Chemical Engineering if I manage to not fail (still studying)

What was your first degree in? 5 year MEng undergrad course like sh4rk

Why did you choose your masters course? only 1 more year, employers prefer if not requite MEng over BEng

How did you fund it? SLC

Bioinformatics MSc

What was your first degree in?

Maths and Computing BSc

Why did you choose your masters course?

Didn't get a particularly good first degree and so wanted to prove I could do better. I also knew that working in bioinformatics would be made a lot easier with some biological knowledge, so a taught course seemed a good idea.

How did you fund it?

Cancer Research UK Scholarship

Did the course help you find employment?

I'm now doing a PhD in Computational Biology, funded by CRUK. There's no way I'd have got in with just my first degree so it definitely did help.

Yeah.

If they still use the same control textbook in final year then I have a copy . (Keeping C&R and Perry's though)
