Hey, I need a camera for my dad for Christmas (he broke his last one which was just a simple little cannon compact style for holiday/random pictures)
I have no idea about cameras, so need some advice.
No need to spend a fortune, dont need a "professional" one, just decent enough pictures.
Been looking around

Canon Ixus 145 is £49 at a store right now down from £99
Sony DSCW800 for around £65 (which seems to be the better one)

Not really willing to spend allot of money as its just for simple pictures also needs to be a compact style.
Some advice please :(

Sorry if wrong section, no proper section this can go into.

The trouble is they're not really cameras that are going to be bought by people who are into photography. So no one on here will have first hand experience of them.

Canon do however have a very good reputation for their compacts so the Ixus is probably a good shout. Just don't expect miracles.

Also if he needs memory cards get them online, most shops are very expensive. Don't bother getting very fast cards, and unless your dad is into shooting video 8GB will be plenty big enough. I would spend a little extra getting a known brand Sandisk, Lexar, Kingston etc.
