Hi all,

Just posting this on behalf of a m8,

He was travelling along the M56 heading towards North Wales, and drove under a bridge (can't remember the exact location) with what he said looked like a copper (had a luminous jacket) standing behind a camera on a tri-pod.

There were no speed restrictions on this motorway at the time (no roadworks, etc) and he was doing about 85-90 indicated on his speedo as he drove under the bridge....

Is this a normal method of catching people speeding, or is the guy likely to be there for something else? tax, or just traffic monitoring? :s

Seems harsh considering its a motorway, down right dangerous for people to start slamming there brakes on when they see em as well!

Well it was just a single tri-pod with a guy standing behind it in I think the central lane, mate says he went past in the outside lane, with a guy doing the same speed behind him, and someone in the central lane doing a similar speed.

Cheers anyways :)

If he wasn't in a 'safety-camera van' and no car chased after him then he probably got away with it. Depends on the car, 85 indicated in my golf would be about 81mph, on a Merc they tend to be exact, but some over-read by about 10%.

Dont think they will wanna do you for 80 actual speed tbh. Something like 100+ then yeh but 80 would be "fine".

I dont get people slamming on the brakes mate of my mums gave me a heart attack last night. 30mph road.....my dad usually doddles along the full thing but said woman must have been doing 40 and slammed on the anchors 10ft from the camera  she was obviously not very observant as the camers is on a 200-300 yard straight with a very slight bend.

I'm not sure I totally agree with this.

How can a 15-20mph difference between 70 and 85-90 change from sensible motorway speed to "downright dangerous"?

I can't help but think that modern cars are capable of driving faster that the speed limits very safely (I don't mean hooning, but as said here 85-90).

Opinions?

**EDIT***

Misread post, didn't see "In the eyes of the law" :p

Still, the question remains.
