I'm looking for a camping stove, no idea what to get though. I had a hell of a time with those disposible barbies last year so i'm looking for something a little more decent this time!

Cheaper the better, i do want to be able to heat up water and canned goods though!

Edit - the more compact the better...

random camping shops are the best, or try a shop with a red and yellow stripe behind their name, cant remember what theyre called.
They sold ones for £10 last year that everywhere else was selling for £25.

You want a gas canister a day ideally, I took 4 last year for Leeds as people always wanted stuff.

Cheapest decent one will probably be £10-20

Have you tried Millets?

Nope, went into blacks yesterday and they had really tiny jobbies that were £30.... didn't look like you could do much with them either.

The small ones are usually as powerful as a mid sized one. They look fragile and too small, but they are designed for hiking and to be as small and compact as possible. I got a £15-£20 one from millets about 6 years ago and have been on several 3/4 day hikes since then. Every time its been perfect. I usually cook boil in the bag stuff, rice, bacon, sasuages and beans. Works perfectly every time.

Whatever you do dont leave it out at night time, someone left theres out, someone *cough* got drunk, stumbled about, broke 4 or 5 chairs and a gazebo nearly came with as i broke my mates tent! She wasn't happy but i was lying there giggling like a girl :D

That was after my mate managed to break someones stove that looked like it cost £50 :s

Are they safe to store in a hot tent then yeah? No safety issues? When you say boil in the bag stuff I presume you mean the specific camping ones you get? Not just tesco stuff?

Go to a army surplus store, buy a hexi stove, and a pack of hexiblocks... £10 all in, and do the job well :)

Nah, get a gas stove. Those hex stoves are crap.

A stove with a built-in igniter is also a good idea if you are likely to be drunk/hungover when operating. Less chance of losing some eyebrows :p

A medium-sized gas canistor [3 quid I think] should last you for several days if you only use 3 or 4 times a day. Although this depends a lot on how long you use it for and how much gas it uses.

They should be safe in a hot tent but I usually store them in the fly sheet [air circulates better there].

Just gone for the one you posted. Gutted i've got to go and buy gas now though! How much should i be paying for a cart?
