can 3870 and 3870x2 be paired in crossfire?

so does anyone know if this is possible , re my earlier thread about the differant memory ie gddr4 vs gddr3 on the x2 , and the fact the x2 has a higher clock than my his iceq 3870 xt , can they be cross fired , and would this cause the x2 to downclock its core to match the his?

crossfirex seems to be a nonentity at the moment , no one seems to know thanks!?

3870 and 3870X2 cannot crossfire together, cards need to be identical. (but the brand doesn't matter)

looking at ati`s compatability charts a 3870 can be paired to a 3850 ?

so what your saying is i cannot put the 3870x2 in my 16 lane slot and drop a vanilla 3870 in my 8 lane slot . could you tell me where you got your info from

i would have thought it was possible as the x2 is 2 3870 in crossfire but on one board but maybe i am wrong

crossfire x lets all cards from the same generation crossfire together

Nope, they run at independant speeds.

Currently running a 3870 with a 3850 no problems clocks independently of each other but see graphics memory as 2*256MB memory instead of 1*256MB and 1*512MB. Not to worried though as i get virtually identical bench scores as i do with 2 3870's.
