Can a Dual Core pentium max out Arma 2?

Ahah. Bad example on my behalf. But eventually the pentiums would see a bottle neck but I would bet thats if someone tried running ridiculus settings w/ silly res' as well. xD

If I'm not mistaken running higher resolution would only put more stress on the GPU? If a CPU can manage x amount of minimum frames at for example 1280 x 720 to make a game playable, it should still run x minimum frame rates at 1920 x 1080 also, but more stress is put on the GPU instead and whether that is the bottleneck.

Wouldn't know but my AMD 965, 6950 ran like stink on Arma 2... or at least looked like crap. Got my i5 and 7970 and to be honest it runs smoothly but still looks like crap max'd.

You should just go ask on the DayZ forums as I assuming this was brought up by that mod.

I play Arma II and DayZ on my Phenom II X6 3.2Ghz with an MSI 6970 OC'ed and I to can confirm, all maxed out, it still looks like a bad day in a paint factory. Runs great however :D

If you play on a high enough resolution (powerful enough GPU) you could max out the games using that CPU, it's not ideal however...but for £50 it's pretty decent.

I still wouldn't want it, and if i was on a budget i'd opt for the i3 2120.

It's the draw distance that's the real CPU killer on Arma2. Along with terrain detail. Both of these settings are highly dependant on CPU, and if somebody claims they're playing the game "maxed out" on a dual core, I'm guessing they're playing with a slideshow frame-rate.
