I'm trying to justify with myself upgrading my 9800XT to a 7800GT. Though Tomb Raider is a very short game, I'd like to see if the quality is really that different. So could some be so kind as to oblige me with the following shots:

- The small town at the start of the Peru level
- The party in Japan (especially with those horribly renedered glasses on the bar as seen in this post http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=6795004&postcount=3966)
- The uber waterfall at the start of Ghana

Thanks in advance.

Lol... I've got a 7800GTX and mine laggs like hell running TRL in nextgen mode. The patch did hardly anything for me and is still unplayable. :/

What's your definition of unplayable? For example I'm getting a norm of 20-30fps when standing still, and about 10-15 during heavy action, 10-15 is what I would define as unplayable.

I'm sure that someone on this forum is playing next gen, I forget who though.

Thanks for the info.

Hmmm..... well i get from 30-15fps, and sometimes the game stops for a few secconds to load something else up. I'd do a small vid in fraps, but the filesize tends to be quite big!

Ouch. Maybe no upgrade for me then :(

Why does it run so badly is it because the creators were likely focusing on getting it to work well on consoles. This realy is anoying people pay a lot more for a PC there for we shouldn't be treated like crap.

you've already seen shots of it with NG in the screenshot thread :)

edit : doh didnt see you want shots in specific places :o

I have found a small improvement to next gen with the patch. I have also mildly overclocked my x1900xtx and that has also helped. It was running sort of OK at 1280x960 with 2x AA. Frames would occasionally dip to 20 but ran mostly between 25 to 45. Depends what you find acceptable - I found the controls to be a bit sluggish. I have lowered the resolution to 1115* x 768 (can’t remember correct res) and this has made a huge difference - frame rate is now between 35 and 70 and surprisingly enough it does not really look any worse. Some games do not look very good at lower resolutions (FEAR) but tomb raider seems to be the exception.

How does next gen run with different top end Ati & Nvidia cards.

I am also running a 7800 GTX, and it lags like hell with the next gen effects turned on. The ReadMe suggests that stuttering is a 'known issue' and related to video drivers. Am about to update mine to latest version.

I still had the same problems running at 800x600 resolution, incidentally.

Without the next gen effects but with everything else on - works fine.

My specs: P4 3.6GHz - 7800 GTX - 3GB RAM

Let me know what happens with the new drivers please?

Why do games run lthis badly when you can get other PC game that look better and have better effects and everything and run smoother?

I'm downloading the demo to see what I make of it.

Crap console port.

Well, installing fresh drivers and the patch helped. They didn't eliminate the problem, though. The game still stutters every so often, with the picture freezing and then updating a half-second or so later.

Pretty annoying. Here's hoping they find a way around it. I'm pretty sure it's not that my hardware's not up to the job...

Aye. I still get that, maybe the next gen mode is just for 512mb cards? Unless you have one that is. :p
