Can anybody running Tomb Raider in next gen take some snaps for me?

Tried the antialiasing trick mentioned above. Sadly it didn't work - game still stutters.

My card is 256Mb - given that I bought it only a few months ago, I would have hoped it could cope with this kind of thing. Maybe I was just sadly mistaken...

I would have thought it would cope with it too. Hmm... funny thing is, if i enable 8x AA in my control panel, everything goes dark  surely there is a problem there too?

Well, a trawl of the Eidos forums revealed the following:

1. Rumours are that the Next-Gen features are intended for 512MB video cards only.

2. People who actually have 512MB cards are reporting the same stuttering performance.

3. General opinion seems to be that Next-Gen essentially means XBox 360, and that the code has not been optimised for PC.

I feel a wee bit aggrieved. I expected that my system should be able to handle anything the 360 could. Wrong again, it appears.

Indeed.... i only bought my card, like just before xmas, for an xmas pressie infact. Looks like ill have to upgrade again to play using the next gen content then really.. Blah. I've got no money either >_<;

Ive jst got my new rig up and running and have all the settings maxed out and get a constant 30-50fps with no slowdown anywhere.

Ive got x2 3800, 2gb corsair xms pc3200, x1900xt all at stock atm.

I must say that this game does look amazing with the next gen gfx :)

I read a preview a few months back and I think it did say you needed a 512 card for next gen. Glad I changed my mind about gettin a 7900gt now :D

What I'm not getting though is how you, Sunlistix, are getting playable framerates where others are not?

Is it down to luck, a finely tuned system or is it people just complaining that 30fps is not 'playable'?

It isn't so much the frame rate. Actually my system runs the game with the Next Gen features on at a reasonable clip - most of the time. There's just moments when the on-screen action freezes briefly and the picture takes a second or two to catch up.

What is currently puzzling me is that this stuttering isn't related to the screen resolution (still happens at the lowest setting) and also doesn't seem directly related to how much is going on on-screen. (It happens while running about in empty rooms as much as it does during a fight with 5 enemies).

This is what makes me wonder if it's really my inadequate hardware, or if it's some arcane conflict somewhere which is causing the problem. The fact that people who genuinely have Next-Gen (512MB) video cards are reporting similar problems also makes me curious about this.

As I said above, the stuttering was mentioned as a 'known issue' in the ReadMe that comes on the game disc. However, they claimed this was a driver problem, and my video card drivers are now current. Wonder if upgrading the sound drivers might help?

The game generally runs fine for me with all the boxes ticked @ 1024/768, however, i noticed slow down when there is lighting affects, such as climbing up a rope to the outside, if i angle the cameras view down, perfectly smooth, if i angle the camera slightly up, so as to see daylight, it becomes a little slide show'ish... Same if im in a room that has an external light source entering it, turn around so as not to see the light and the games is smooth, face the light and its sluggish. Seams to me to be a HDR thing.

7900GTX overclocked, opteron 170 @ FX60 2gb ram - i cant run next gen even if i drop to 1280x1024.

does still look fantastic without it though. I get big pauses and what not, I need games at 60fps so i keep it off.

as i said in the screenshot thread, its running at around 25fps which doesnt bother me. and i only get 'jerky' moments at the beginning of levels, after that its fine

Still, that's better than the 10-15 I'm getting :p
