Can anyone recommend good forests near me? Sheffield/Barnsley

Looking for some good forests with trails to go out on the MTB on, there's a lot of mountains near me in the peaks etc but I really fancy some forest riding.

Places I have been near me:

New Miller Dam (find this too small and short but it's ok I guess)
Sherwood Forest (not exactly close but really enjoyed the trails here, a bit easy but still good fun)

Other places I have been for general riding:

Grenno + Warny
Derwent Dam
Park Springs
Lady Cannings

Any recommendations would be great but like i say, prefer forests

You're probably best asking around some of your local bike shops for their recommendations.

Not something I'm overly familiar with but from the sounds of it you want something like Kielder which is a fair trek from you. We did a bit of something along those lines near Grassington as well but that was like 1992 or something so I forget the details.

EDIT: Looks like my memory is a bit off - what I think was the trail near Grassington only has a short section of wood/forest (Nidderdale) and the rest is open country.

Ride Sheffield would be a good group on facebook to ask. Unfortunately I'm not much use as I tend to live in Greno and the Peaks.

Gisburn would be good. Hamsterley also. Dalby Forest. All probably a couple of hours to get to but worth it.
