Can anything be done about speed bumps?

My most hated of all bumps. :mad:

I not only have to slow down to about 1mph but it also scrapes the underneath of my car. There is a road near me thats just littered with them for about 1/4 mile and its so awful that most of the time I just find a different route if there are speed bumps.

I regularly overtake on a set of speed bumps near me.

The road is 30, and I can comfortably go over them at 30.

Not my problem if someone else is driving a lowered stiff car and has to slow to a crawl to negotiate them.

One of the things that really annoy me is when those speed bumps that go between the wheels so ambulances can floor it over them are spaced 3 wide, because the are always care parked near the outer ones making them unusable so the only option is the central one which = playing chicken with the oncoming traffic >.>

Put a tyre over it doused in petrol and set it on fi.....oh.

Speed humps get right on boobs. Would rather have a chicane of some sort or just a lower over all speed limit with more cameras.

You assume that everyone is driving a lowered car that has problems going over them?
Plenty of standard vehicles have issues on normal speed bumps. Everyone on the planet shouldn't have to convert to a cruddy 4x4 or <insert generic tall school run piece of dirt> just to get around a town without woe...

Overtaking on speed bumps also... lol? Completely missing the point I feel.

Depends on the speed bump and its location.

I'll overtake on or inbetween speed humps if someone, for whatever reason, is going over them very slowly as well.

Obviously I won't blat past them at 40, I won't do it if there's any traffic coming the other way for a very long way, if there's people that might cross the road, or anything like that.

But if there's a car that has to get over speed bumps at 5mph, and I can get over them at 15mph, I'll nip past if the opportunity is there. It's not because I'm angry or they're doing anything wrong, just... if I can get past I will and then I'm on my merry way, and the other person can carry on without someone having to wait behind them. I hate it when people are obviously waiting behind me for whatever reason.

I drive in the middle of the road to stop you doing that, i think its very selfish you speeding past as i crawl over them

Im not saying your doing anything wrong, hell I do the same thing, but its pretty ironic that we have the above situation which is arguably more dangerous that cars driving down a road caused by speed bumps that allegedly improve road safety.

There's some awesome speed bumps on the way I take back from the cinema, in Sunderland.

There's 3 of them, each only about 2.5ft wide - i.e. far less than the track of my car.

So I drive down the road at 30, concentrating on aligning my car so that I dont skim them with my wheels, and give passengers the best possible comfort. If there was a hazard, (small child from the side say) I'd be slower to react as I'm focussed on aiming my car rather than on potential hazards.

And this is outside a school :rolleyes:
