Just a quickie, does anyone know if people in prisons (category B if that matters), are allowed to have things like books, music (ipod) or are they not allowed?

thanks
Daniel.

they have all sorts mate, my mum and her hubby are both prison wardens and they have a bloody easy life in there!

If they cant get it in from visitors then some of the guards take it in, including drugs!!

I suppose it depends on the prison though and im not sure on IPods but books and CDs they can.

you off to prison then? wondering what you can take with ya :p ?

I work at a Young Offenders Institution and they are allowed new PS2s, not their ones from home, so that they haven't got anything concealed in em, CDs, but not sure about IPods.

Why would you take an iPod in prison, how would you charge it? take a computer too? :p

this is a case of not thinking before posting :p they will charge it via a plug ... the same plug the ps2 and tv's use ...

A bit off-topic, but I think it's ****ing disgraceful that they allow people in prison to have PS2. Half the kids on council estates (bit of a stereotype but it does the job) probably want one of these but can't afford one, and yet they are given to people in prison. You're in there for a reason, and that reason sure as hell ain't to play Gran Turismo all bloody day.

If these are rewarded for being good little boys and girls like doing good in the studies you can do in there or just general good behaviour = Positive

BUT like you said some people cant even get these at home so they might want to commit crime just to go to prison as could be better then what they have at home... or maybe not even a home

I don't care what they do in prison. It's fairly difficult to get a job as a young'un and so all this "they've worked for their PS2 in prison" bull doesn't wash with me.

I guess there's an argument to say that people should be rewarded in prison for good behaviour, and I do agree with this. But giving out high quality gaming consoles is ridiculous.

The second point of yours is perhaps a little far-fetched, but it certainly wouldn't help if a kid thinks about committing a small-scale crime and then also thinks "Well, the time in jail could be spent playing PS2 as long as I behave for a while in prison", there could be more intent to commit the crime, but I'm not too sure if that happens very often.

hmmm but they would have to give them something good for the rewards to be worth anything why would they be good in prison if all they got was a colouring book? if you show them that you are good and work hard you get good rewards so when they come out it COULD help them try to get a job and work hard to buy good things like in prison .. if they get crap stuff in prison as rewards this could just leave them thinking  ive just worked and been good for all that time and all i got was this, this will seem like whats they point in working hard in a job or even getting a job when all i get is this when i could equally just break in and get it for free and in a few minutes.

And i was thinking more homeless to very poor people with little food and clothing or no where to live seems much easyer to commit a crime so they can get all these and more for free in prison

All prisoners can have anything, its like a holiday camp, did you not see that Ian Huntley in the paper, had a PS2 in his cell, disgracefull!!!.

CD's? snap, slice, neck, blood, everywhere...

or am i thinking about it too much?

Sounds about right, i read jonathan aitkens book when he went to prison and he got his notepad taken off him because the metal coil that holds the pages together could be used as a weapon

Sorry but the people i see on council estates or in HA homes seem to have life quite nice comparatively.
New estate being built near me, the first 8 houses finished (all work concentrated on these to start with) are HA, all of them have cars 04 plate or newer, including 2 houses with 2 cars and one with a brand new focus.

so, does anyone know if it would be possible to give someone an ipod whos in prison?

Surely in the amount of time its taking to get a decent response, you could have rang the prison concerned?
