Hi, first of all, id like to say im a newbie to this forum and would like to thank you all beforehand on all the things you may assist me with.

ive just built my first "proper" system and got all the parts from OcUK, however im thinking about upgrading again already, and adding to my system another GPU.

Just like to clear things up, i can crossfire a HD4850 x2 with a HD4890 cant i, as there in the same series so to speak.

Cheers!

there you go :)

Hang on, I thought you could always crossfire cards with other cards from the same series. On that chart it says I can't put my 3870 with a 3850 - really?

Well yes, as they are the same series :p

His 4890 will just run as a 4850, so he's better off just gtting one of those instead, as they cheaper.

nah, I have had a 4850/4870 crossfire and it worked fine, couldn't tell any difference whatsoever between 4850/4850 CF though.

As your 4870 ran like a 4850, 4870 has to stop and wait all the time as both cards have to be in sync.
